Find Your Furry Soulmate at Dutchie Buns Rescue

Where are we located?

We are located in Kansas City, Missouri and help domestic bunnies in and around the Kansas City area.

Our Philosophy

Dutchie Buns Rescue (DBR) adheres to the following philosophy:

  • We believe that ALL rabbits are valuable as individuals, regardless of breed purity, temperament, state of health, or relationship to humans. The welfare of all rabbits is our primary consideration.
  • Except for unique situations, in which wild animals are being nursed or rehabilitated, it is in the best interest of wild rabbits that human intervention be held to a minimum.
  • Domestic rabbits are not the product of natural selection, but rather of human interference by means of breeding programs, and the product is a human-dependent animal who needs protection. It is therefore a human responsibility that these animals be cared for in a manner appropriate to their needs.
  • It is in the best interest of domestic rabbits to be neutered or spayed, to live indoors in the home where supervision and protection are provided, and to be treated for illnesses by rabbit-experienced veterinarians.
  • Domestic rabbits are companion animals and should be afforded at least the same individual rights, level of care, and opportunity for longevity as is commonly given to dogs and cats who live as human companions.
  • Rabbits are intelligent, social animals, who require mental stimulation, toys, exercise, environmental activity and social interaction from, as appropriate, people, other rabbits, or other animals.

Rachel is a KC native that has been involved with and served house rabbits for 10 years now and in the rabbit rescue community for the majority of that. She has a passion for animals in general and educating people about proper care for all, especially domesticated rabbits. Rachel’s had extensive experience in scouting, establishing, and maintaining loving foster homes as well as being a foster herself for many years. She has also hit the streets, drainage pipes, yards, and fields saving dumped bunnies in our community.

In her free time, Rachel loves to be with her friends and family, including her 15 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews. She loves to play sports, watch sports, and cheer her family on in those too. And of course, hanging with Bert the cat.

Rachel is excited to be a part of the DBR Board and to assist the KC community in understanding how truly wonderful and unique rabbits are as well as their care.

Vet Partner: Mariposa Vet Wellness Center

Dr. J.C. Burcham, DVM, Dr. Anthony Carrier, DVM, CVMMP, & Dr. Amanda Kinnon, DVM

Mariposa was founded with the philosophy that all patients should be treated with respect, kindness and understanding. That means they do their best to make Mariposa Veterinary Wellness Center a safe and happy place for them whenever they step through our doors. They see many pets who have a history of fear and even aggression. With patience and gentleness, they can often get them comfortable with anything they need to do for them. This makes them different from most other veterinary clinics. Their goal is cooperation, NOT control! They believe this can be done in a safe and rewarding manner, which is why they take their time with “difficult” patients.
