Becoming a Foster Family

Foster homes are always needed for bunnies who are either waiting for their furever home or not yet ready for adoption. If you are not able to make a lifetime commitment to a rabbit at this time, then fostering may be perfect for you! Our foster parents work directly with our coordinators regarding all aspects of a foster rabbit's care.

Getting bunnies in need into foster homes dedicated to providing care and socialization can give them the one-on-one time and attention they deserve and help to turn their outlook into a positive one.

Apply to be a Foster Family

We are excited for your interest in helping to save bunnies in need. Once we receive your application, we will review and reach back out to you with the next steps in the process.

Foster Application

Fostering Requirements

Requirements:

  • The main foster contact for the family must be at least 18 years old and be the one completing the application.
  • Fosters with rabbit experience are preferred, BUT we can train novices. Foster home applicants who are new to our rescue must complete our Bunny Care 101 training.
  • Fosters must have enough time and flexibility in their schedule to allow them to meet the needs of foster animals in their care. Some rabbits may require more socialization or medical care than others.
  • Fosters will share pictures of the space the bunny/bunnies will be living or invite our coordinators to their home to review the space.
  • Monthly health checks will be held with our foster coordinators to make sure rabbits are on track for adoption.
  • Foster homes should be able to transport their foster rabbit(s) to vet appointments, emergency care if necessary, and adoption events. Foster homes must bring rabbit(s) to any adoption events we hold (or work with our coordinators to have them picked up). If you are worried about transportation to specific appointments or events, you can work with our coordinators to set something up.

Fostering Program FAQs

Please reach us at dutchiebunsrescue@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Dutchie Buns Rescue is proud to provide the training and support you will need to care for your foster bunny. All new foster families are required to complete our Bunny Care 101 education and knowledge check. But we also have additional education resources available on our blog or you can work with our education coordinator for any other information you may need.

We will provide the initial supplies such as the pen, blanket, stuffy for single buns, litter box, food and water dishes, one bag of litter, and one bag each of food and hay.

The foster family will be responsible for providing ongoing supplies.

Fosters with children are welcome! We would love to work with your family to provide kids' education on how to safely play around and interact with bunnies in addition to proper handling and care.

Our team is here for our foster families to help with any questions or concerns that arise while they are fostering.

Our leadership team is here to help with any questions.

The length of foster assignments varies based on the needs of the bunny. We will work to match you with a foster assignment that works with your schedule, availability and interests.

Expect for at least 6 months or longer sometimes.
